Another City to Visit in Europe: Milan, Barcelona, Madrid, and Venice

Milan
The next time you visit Europe, you might get interested to the city on the northern Italy, Milan. In the ancient times, this city is also named as medioplanum. Nowadays, Milan has become the second largest Italian city in population after Rome. Milan is a leading commercial, financial, and manufacturing center of Italy and a major center of intellectual and artistic life.

As a modern city, it has numerous of tall apartments and office buildings in the business district as well as Milan hotels and resorts. So it would be no difference if you travel to Milan for business whether for leisure. You’ll have them both in on city.

Milan

One of the most famous building in Italy is the Duomo cathedral which located on the east side of the Piazza del Duomo. The cathedral has an unusual triangular façade that begun in 1386 and finally completed in 1809 at Napoleon’s command.

Venice
Down to the Italian northeast, you will be interested the seaport city in Veneto region, Venice. As well as others recognized, the city become famous to its river and the Gondolas. Once, Venice was known as the naval power and commercial, hence it has the name for “Queen of the Adriatic”. Now it’s the great attraction to visitors to discover the entire city, and you should have no worry to find any hotels in Venice since they’re all over the places.

The islands on which the city is built are connected by about 400 bridges. The Grand Canal, about 3 km (about 2 mi) long, winds through Venice from northwest to southeast, dividing the city into two nearly equal portions. The Giudecca Canal, about 400 m (about 1310 ft) wide, separates Giudecca Island, on the extreme south, from Venice proper.

Barcelona
Barcelona, city, northeastern Spain, capital of Barcelona Province and the autonomous region of Catalonia, a seaport on the Mediterranean Sea between the Llobregat and Besós rivers. Barcelona is the second largest Spanish city in population and the principal industrial and commercial center of the country. Barcelona is a major Mediterranean port and a financial and publishing center of Spain.

The oldest section of the city of Barcelona, formerly enclosed by walls, was built on the harbor and is traversed by the Rambla, a paved thoroughfare extending from the harbor to the Plaza de Cataluña, the focal point of the city. The streets of the old section are narrow and crooked; in the newer sections they are wide and straight, and the buildings are modern.

The dominating skyscape as well as Barcelona hotels are the fantastic openwork spires of Templo Expiatorio de la Sagrada Familia (Church of the Sacred Family), a huge, unfinished cathedral notable for the elaborate patterns and undulating curves characteristic of its builder, the Catalan architect Antonio Gaudí y Cornet. Other points of major interest include the Church of San Pablo del Campo (914), the Gothic Cathedral of Santa Eulalia, a monument to Christopher Columbus, and the nearby peak Tibidabo (532 m/1745 ft). Among the many cultural institutions are the University of Barcelona (1450), the Autonomous University of Barcelona (1968), the Royal Archives of Aragón, the Archaeological Museum, the Museum of Ancient Art, the Museum of Modern Art, and the Contemporary Art Museum.

Madrid
If you like to wander around a city on foot, then Madrid would be a great place to go since it’s known for its numerous sidewalks. Cafés and café-bars are easily found as you walk downtown. Find any Madrid hotels to stay and start to discover the city’s attraction. When the night goes, you can step out from your hotel and walk along the avenues when the city fountains are illuminated.

There are several large parks within the city. The most important is Retiro Park, which is much like New York City’s Central Park. It features many tree-lined avenues, an art exhibition pavilion, an artificially created lake, monuments, fountains, and a rose garden. A second large park is the Casa de Campo, which has a cable railway, monorail, and a modern zoo. Another park, the Parque del Oeste, has a broad area of trees, rose gardens, and walks between the city and the Manzanares River.
